About the Speaker:

Wang Chung-jen, born in 1967. Doctor from the University of Tennessee, registered Civil Engineer, registered Traffic Engineer, California, USA. Formerly Director of the Office of Pavement Management of the California Department of Transportation, he is currently Director of the Office of Unimpeded Traffic Management of the California Department of Transportation and a technical expert on the implementation of the California Senate Transportation Bill 743. From 1989 to 1996, Wang participated in the research of the July 5 and August 5 Key projects of the Ministry of Communications of China and the design and implementation of traffic management systems for many expressways in China. Among them, "Beijing Airport Road Traffic Engineering Design" won the first prize of excellent design of the Ministry of Communications, and "Development of Trunk road maintenance technology" and "Computer aided Traffic Engineering Facility design System" won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of the Ministry of Communications.

In more than 20 years abroad, Wang Zhongren has accumulated rich practical experience in the field of transportation management, project development, planning and design, research and teaching of highway transportation. As director of the pavement Management Office, Wang is responsible for annual data collection of the state's 80,000 lane kilometers of black and white pavement, development of pavement asset management software and preparation of maintenance plans. The office manages an annual budget of more than $1 billion. As director of the Traffic Flow Management Office, Ong is responsible for road congestion monitoring, toll roads, highway management System (TSMO), ramp control, and evaluation and initiation of traffic flow improvement projects throughout the state. Tadahito is well versed in the mechanics of U.S. government and transportation project planning, development and management. At the same time, Wang was responsible for the prefectural traffic engineer training; Also responsible for the compilation and promotion of a variety of related guides and manuals.

Chung Yan Wang has been selected as a National Transportation Research Administration (TRB) highway collaborative project NCHRP review expert for several years. Ong is currently a member of four committees of TRB Highway Geometric Design, traffic flow theory, Pavement management system and international cooperation. He was a professor at Bradford University (http://www.bradley.edu/), where he taught courses on road surfaces and traffic operations. He also teaches part-time at the University of California at Davis (https://www.ucdavis.edu/), California State University at Sacramento (http://www.csus.edu/), and Pacific University (http://www.pacific.edu/). He is also an adjunct professor at many universities in China.

Brief introduction of the lecture:

Based on years of real-world experiences in the transportation field, the presenter will share the observations, reviews, and suggestions for transportation development from the angle of a government official. The transformation of the transportation industry from policy to performance measures, from technology implementation to collaboration of stakeholders, from investment to government practices will be discussed. It is intended to broaden the student’s views of transportation, deepen the understanding of government operations, and inform class-room education to better prepare the students for real-world challenges and opportunities.
